RSS KO
JAANNA HAI?
Before forming an opinion, understand.
Founded in 1925, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is one of the world's largest voluntary civil society movements, dedicated to character building, social cohesion, and grassroots community service.
Character Building & Discipline
Founded on Vijayadashami in 1925 by Dr. K.B. Hedgewar in Nagpur, the movement started with a simple vision: lasting civilizational strength comes not from political power, but from morally grounded, disciplined citizens who place nation and society above personal interest.
- Voluntary non-political civil society organization
- Physical fitness, mental focus, and moral grounding
The Daily Shakha
The fundamental unit of RSS is the daily 1-hour Shakha conducted in open neighborhood grounds. It combines traditional Indian sports, martial coordination, group singing, and intellectual discussions on civic duties.
- Zero membership fees, open to all citizens
- Breaks caste and economic barriers in daily life
150,000+ Service Projects
Inspired Swayamsevaks lead massive non-profit institutions in education (Vidya Bharati, Ekal Vidyalaya), tribal healthcare (Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram), and emergency disaster response across India.
- Immediate first-response during earthquakes, floods, and pandemics
- Extensive vocational training and grassroots self-reliance
Nation First (राष्ट्राय स्वाहा)
For today's digital generation, understanding RSS means looking past second-hand biases and seeing actual ground realities: selfless volunteerism, environmental stewardship, and building an inclusive, forward-looking Bharat.
- Active youth participation in innovation, startup mentoring, and social impact
- Inviting constructive dialogue, critique, and participation
MILESTONES OF SERVICE
A continuum of grassroots discipline, humanitarian disaster response, and civic solidarity from 1925 to Present.
Foundation on Vijayadashami
Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar establishes RSS in Nagpur with a handful of youth, pioneering daily 1-hour Shakha character training.
Partition Refugee Relief
Set up massive refugee transit camps, provided food, medical care, and security to millions displaced across Punjab, Sindh, and Bengal borders.
Border Wars Civil Support
Managed internal security, border supply logistics, and traffic control at Prime Minister Nehru & Shastri's request. Invited to march in 1963 Republic Day parade.
Underground Democratic Resistance
Led the grassroots underground movement against the Emergency, publishing underground newspapers and coordinating opposition restoration of civil liberties.
Sewa Bharati Institutionalization
Formalized grassroots social work network into Sewa Bharati, scaling institutional presence across tribal education, health vans, and skill centers.
Bhuj Gujarat Earthquake Relief
First responders on the ground within 45 minutes of the devastating tremor, rescuing thousands trapped under rubble and rebuilding entire flattened villages.
COVID-19 Pandemic Mobilization
Nationwide ration kit distribution, plasma donation hotlines, 24/7 isolation ward assistance, and respectful cremations for unclaimed deceased.
Centenary of Service (100 Years)
Entering the 100th year of continuous voluntary nation-building with unprecedented youth mobilization across technology, environment, and social harmony.
WHAT IS A
SWAYAMSEVAK?
Swayam-Sevak translates to self-motivated volunteer. It is not an official designation—it is a conscious personal pledge to serve society.
Selfless Volunteerism (सेवा)
Dedicated personal time, energy, and domain skills to community without expecting personal fame, financial return, or political office.
Daily Self-Discipline (संयम)
Cultivating physical stamina, mental clarity, punctuality, and moral integrity as an everyday lifestyle.
